Mom and dad at the country club.jpeg

Mom and dad at the country club with friends. Hard to imagine but in this photo dad is 19 years old and mom is only 15. Hmmmm.

Dad composed this image in his darkroom. I think he was in love.

It’s Patty! That is our maternal grandmother, Mary Beatty (Nana) holding the baby and that is me, Kathy and Mick around Patty. We always were very excited when a new baby came along. Patty was born in England.

Mick calls this the upper tier: the first four kids: Mary Kathleen, William Franklin, Michael Patrick and Patricia Ann. Of course, dad created this photo in his darkroom. His darkroom in England was our kitchen.

London.jpg

London - Mom, dad, Kathy and Billy Boy

Tourists dressed a little differently in those days.

At the time of this photo mom had eight children, one already married, one in college, the other six at home and she was working full time as a nurse. As you can sort of see in the picture, mom had green eyes.

Downey (our paternal grandmother) and her eight O’Hern kids. Get in the picture Clem! They are from left to right Clem, Wilma, Gerald, dad (at the top), Marie, Emmett, Betty and Bernard. Bernard was the oldest and Emmett the baby of the family.

Dad’s mom and mom’s mom and the result. Obviously our grandmothers enjoyed very different life styles.

Big House.jpg

313 E. Congress, Rantoul, Illinois - former home of Chanute Air Force Base

This was the house that most of the O’Hern kids grew up in. It was built in 1900. There will be many stories to come about the goings on in that house. We lived next door to Katy and Ernie Podagrosi. Katy was the mayor of the town. The garage was under the house in the back so had to be entered from the alley.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

From left to right: Teresa, Jane, Eileen and the back of Tim’s head. Every Christmas Eve dad would read A Visit From St. Nicholas right before bedtime.
